Winter in Romsdalen and Åndalsnes Hytteutleie

Åndalsnes Hytteutleie is a year-round destination with warm cabins available throughout the year, making it the perfect base for a winter trip with family or friends. Romsdalen is a paradise for ski enthusiasts, offering great tours for both those who enjoy steep alpine skiing and those who prefer gentler cross-country or mountain ski trips. We provide storage space for skis and drying facilities for wet clothes and boots after a long day out in the snow.

Mountains in Romsdalen

The Romsdal mountains near Åndalsnes offer some of the most exciting hiking terrain in Norway all year round. The area stretches from the shores of the Romsdal Fjord to the highest mountains in Northwest Norway. Here you’ll find Northern Europe’s tallest mountain walls, flat mountain plateaus, lush pine forests, and salmon rivers.

Our central location is the ideal starting point for hikes to Rampestreken or Romsdalseggen, as well as day trips to Geiranger, Ålesund, the Atlantic Road, or Eikesdalen and Mardalsfossen. The Høyt & Lavt Climbing Park at Bjorli is just 45 minutes away—a beautiful drive through stunning Romsdalen.

Trollstigen and Trollveggen are our classic landmarks, but in recent years, Romsdalseggen has also become a very popular destination. From here, you get views of some of the wildest mountains in Norway. As you make your way across Romsdalseggen, they appear one by one: Kongen, Dronninga, Romsdalshorn, Store Trolltind, Store Vengetind, and Trollveggen with its jagged row of troll peaks. In the background, you can catch glimpses of Trollstigen, Molde, and the Norwegian Sea. If you’re visiting in July, the Norwegian Mountain Festival is a unique opportunity to join guided or unguided hikes in the area.

Setnesmoen

Our closest neighbor is the Setnesmoen military camp and hiking area, known from the TV show "Kompani Lauritzen." Here you’ll find idyllic forest trails and the Rauma Golf Course right outside the cabin door. Åndalsnes Hytteutleie is located just 2 km from the center of Åndalsnes with all its amenities and services, and only 1 km from the shopping center. It's an 11-minute drive to Trollveggen and 15 minutes to Trollstigen.

Fjord, river, and fishing

The contrasts between fjord and mountains are striking. A hike can easily begin by the sea and end high in the mountains — without taking many hours. Many of the areas have a strong wilderness feel, despite being easily accessible. You can reach one of the highest peaks and still be back in time for dinner.

Paddling on the beautiful Rauma River, which winds its way through Romsdalen, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on the side river Istra are also popular activities. This is a fantastic way to experience the Rauma River or other waterways. An activity for both kids and adults! We have four SUP boards available for rent if you’d like to go for a ride.

Romsdalsgondolen and Eggen Restaurant

Romsdalsgondolen is Norway’s longest cable car. It takes you from the center of Åndalsnes to the town mountain Nesaksla in just over five minutes. If you’re feeling fit, you can hike up to Nesaksla via Rampestreken and take the Romsdalsgondolen back down to Åndalsnes — or finish your hike across Romsdalseggen with a gondola ride. The experience is just as spectacular in summer as in winter. At the top, you’ll find Eggen Restaurant, offering modern Nordic cuisine that will excite your senses.

Take the Rauma Railway to Åndalsnes

The Rauma Railway from Dombås to Åndalsnes is a spectacular nature experience in itself and a fantastic gateway to the area. Otherwise, access is easy from the east via the E136 through Romsdalen. The nearest airport is Årø in Molde, just one hour from Åndalsnes. From Vigra Airport in Ålesund, it's about a two-hour drive.
